DreamVendor 3D Printer Vending Machine Turns Ideas into Reality for Free

Now students at Virginia Tech have the possibility to bring their ideas to reality. This is because the Virginia Tech's College of Engineering has installed the DreamVendor 3D printer vending machine, which is the work of Virginia Tech's DREAMS Lab.
The device represents an interactive 3D printing station equipped with four Makerbot Thing-O-Matic 3D printers. The developers describe the invention as .

Here's how it works: students load their designs in the Makerbot .s3g toolpath file format onto the vending machine using an SD card. Then they choose their desired model on the control panel of the DreamVendor. The final step involves the printing process after which the user retrieves the work from the storage bin.

Due to the support from Virgina Tech's Student Engineers' Council and Department of Mechanical Engineering, the vending machine is completely free for all students. It has gained huge popularity since its installation.
