Popular image sharing site Instagram, which had been acquired by
Facebook has launched a new web interface to enable users to search and
view images uploaded by the Instagram community through their desktop
browsers. Instagram, which first launched as an iPhone only app has
grown spectacularly and has gained a large base of users.
Users will now be able to sign in to their Instagram account and view
their full feed on the web. Previously there was no way of viewing
Instagram account from the web and users could only view their feeds
through a mobile device running official (and unofficial third party)
Instagram app, which is available for iPhone and Android. The web based
interface also supports mobile browsers so users of Blackberry, Windows
Phone and other platforms, which do not have an official app yet will
also be able to sign in to Instagram. However the ability to upload
photos and editing them with filters is still unavailable on the web.
Instagram introduced web based profile pages a few months ago and now
it has brought the almost-whole Instagram experience to the web. Not
only users can view images and feeds but they can also like photos by
clicking on the ‘heart’ button. They can also see conversations inline.
In a blog post
Instagram CEO Kevin Systrom said that they believe users should be able
to access Instagram on different devices, whichever is
conveniently accessible to them – this includes desktop computers.
However he believes that the ability to upload photos on the network
should only be through mobile devices as Instagram is about producing
photos on the go.
To use Instagram on the web open instagram.com and log in to your account.
