We recently wrote a post listing the top 6 Augmented Reality apps
for Android platform and now we are going to do the same for iOS. The
Augmented Reality applications on mobile devices of today give us a
sneak peak of what lies for us in the future, so using them even today
at their most minimal capabilities blows us away. Here in this post we
are going to list some of our favorite AR applications that we think you
will enjoy on your iPhone or iPad. Let’s get started.
Theodolite (iTunes – $3.99)
Theodolite is an Augmented Reality app for both iPhone and iPad that
allows users to take geo tagged images and movies directly from the app
using 2X and 4X digital zoom and stamp notes and geographical data on
them. Along with the ability to tag photos and videos the app also shows
the current location of the user on the map. Theodolite comes with tons
of features that involve Augmented Reality and is a must have for those
who love to live their lives on the edge.
Star Chart (iTunes – $2.99)
Star Chart is an educational Augmented Reality app for iOS devices
that just like Sky Map app for Android shows what lies in the infinite
sky. When a user points the camera towards the sky, the app using the
GPS and gyroscope determines the position of the pointed area and shows
the unseen. With Star Chart users can view all the stars of norther and
southern hemispheres right on their iOS device’s screen which includes
over 120,000 stars. The app also has a 3D mode that can be used to view
other planets and moons revolving around them. The app also has a time
travel feature that enables users to forward or rewind the time to up to
10000 years and watch the sky according to that time.
Spyglass (iTunes – $3.99)
For the adventurer inside you Spyglass is a powerful Augmented
Reality navigator and compass that prevents you from getting lost when
off-road. The app features a high tech viewfinder, gyrocompass, GPS
tracker, speedometer, and much more. Users can tag, share and find where
they are on a map using the app and determine which direction they want
to head to incase they are lost.
Peaks (iTunes – $2.99)
If you are one of those adventurous types who like to climb on
mountains then Peaks is a must have app for you. The app enables users
to know the name and information related to the mountains they are view.
Simply load the app on your iOS device and point it towards the
mountain(s) you want to get information about. The app provides name of
the mountain and also tells the user how far it is from his or her
current location.
SpotCrime (iTunes – $2.99)
SpotCrime is an Augmented Reality app for iOS devices that could help
you to stay safe while you live your life in a neighborhood that is
full of crimes. The app allows users to check if there have been recent
crimes in their area on map as well as through the lens of their device.
Just load the app and point the camera to the street infront of you,
and the app will display any major or minor crime incident that took
place in that street in recent days.
AR Invaders (iTunes – $1.99)
Who does not like to play games. But if you have gotten bored of
playing regular games then AR Invaders is for you. The app is an
Augmented Reality game in which players have to hit incoming invading
ship. The user sees his regular view on the screen along with controls
and targets to hit. The incoming ships can be destroyed by pointing to
them and pressing the shot button.
