The year 2012 has been a big one for the tech industry, we have seen a number of breakthroughs that will change our lives both on short and long term basis. Just like any other year in the history of mankind, year 2012 has brought many fruitful innovations and scientific breakthroughs that will change the course of our lives in coming years. Here in this post we have listed a few notable inventions of this year that we think have a huge potential and are on the path of becoming the next big things. Let’s get started

Lytro Camera

Lytro Camera is the first light field camera that came into existence after full twenty years of research. The Lytro camera is capable of taking photos at high resolution and allows users refocus them even after they have taken the shots. Lytro Camera achieves this task using its custom software. After taking the photos and ‘refocusing’ you can share them online and store their digital version in your computer. Users can not only refocus the photos they took using the Lytro camera but they can also choose between different perspectives as the camera takes the photo from a number of angles. Lytro Camera truly reinvents how we take photos using the digital cameras, and that too at an affordable price of $399. You can learn more about Lytro camera in the video below.

Microsoft voice translator

MIX10 MicrosoftTranslator dk 1920 2 The Top Tech Breakthroughs of the Year 2012
It has been a dream of every human to talk to a person from another part of the world in his native language and not use English as a common medium to communicate verbally. While this has been impossible due to the diverse nature of mankind and due to the presence of thousands of different languages around the world, Microsoft’s Voice Translator could change things once and for all. How it works is pretty simple, when a person speaks in English, it recognizes the words and converts it into text. It then takes the converted text and intelligently translates it into the desired language, for example in Chinese. After translating the text it reads it to the listener who hears Chinese even though the speaker said those things in the English language. It works in the same way for the Chinese user and translates his words in English so that the English speaker could understand.
Currently the Microsoft Translator is in testing stages and supports English and Chinese. Microsoft plans to add more languages to this wonderful system and make it more use friendly.
